Come experience fun, interactive programs that promote communication and cooperation, the development of mutual trust and support, and commitment to common goals. La Playa Hotel and Cottages by-the-Sea along with Associated Hosts Destination Management Services has created a variety of team building programs that have been designed specifically for our guests, and are both enjoyable and competitive. Each program offers unique challenges that require team members to collaborate on decision making, maximizing their resources and generate effective solutions - while having fun! The following are just a few examples of what we have to offer.
Wine Blending with the Winemaker: Hosted and facilitated by vineyard owner Bill Parsons and his winemaking team, your group will be transported to the Parsonage Village Vineyard located in Carmel Valley Village. Normally not open to the public, this stunning property is known for their fine quality grapes that produce powerful wines of intense flavor. Mr. Parsons and his team will discuss the elements and techniques involved in wine blending. Inside the Barrel Room, teams are given four wines (Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) to create a unique blend that is, ultimately, judged by Mr. Parsons. Bottles are corked and foil wrapped for each guest to take home and enjoy. Skip Barber Racing: Indulge your group with a day at nearby Skip Barber Racing School, the global leader in automotive education and entertainment. Corporate racing and driving programs accommodate groups of all sizes. Combining high-performance street cars and super-exciting Formula Skip Barber race cars, highly trained instructors teach effective car control, driver awareness and an appreciation for speed in a safe, fun environment. Driving programs range from ½ day programs to 3 day racing schools.
Carmel Team Quest: Your guests will discover charming Carmel-by-the-Sea on an exclusive quest Walking Tour through secret pathways, hidden courtyards, award-winning gardens, and enchanting fairytale cottages—the homes, haunts, and history of famous artists, writers, and movie stars. What is a quest? Some people view a quest as an expedition, or the act of seeking something, such as a pot of gold. Others think of a quest as the pot of gold itself. Our vision of quest is a team journey in which the "reward" is the camaraderie that develops when a team has a fun, successful experience together, thereby making the process more important than the end result. Starting at La Playa Hotel, your group will split into teams of 6-10 people per team. They will work together as they hunt for clues and solve puzzles throughout the city of Carmel.
Carmel Beach Olympics: Your guests will walk a few blocks from the hotel to Carmel Beach where they will enjoy today's Beach Olympics. Your group will sink their toes into the glorious sands of Carmel Beach while they compete in a variety of new and unique activities to achieve the right balance of competition, camaraderie and creativity. This program is not based on athleticism or physical prowess, but rather the collective strength of each team's members. Volleyball, Frisbee Golf, sandcastle building, and other fun events will be designed for the ultimate in competitive games!
Road Rally Adventure: The Road Rally is a great way for guests to explore the rugged and beautiful Monterey Peninsula. Guests will travel around the peninsula in rented Sebring or Mustang convertibles (based on availability). The cars will be delivered to the hotel and will be stocked with Road Rally Bags complete with maps, instructions, guidelines and all necessary information to successfully complete the mission at hand. Each team will have a number of destinations to reach, and something that they will need to do or collect at each stop, including having creative photos taken of the team members at various locations. Challenges can include everything from a putting contest to a cerebral brain teaser that the team has to work together to complete. This is NOT a race, but a fun and entertaining way to see the Monterey Peninsula!
Philanthropic Teambuilding
“Together We Care!” We all want to make a difference in this world. Here's a team building activity that offers a rare opportunity to actually make a difference, with immediate, tangible results built into the process. Armed with wrenches and enthusiasm, your teams race to construct the ultimate human-powered, no-gasoline-needed rocket – children's bicycles. Meanwhile, other teammates are navigating fun, innovative puzzles and challenges to earn enough “money” for purchasing that last crucial part needed to make their team's bike the first off the line. The final bell rings. You wheel your mechanical marvels to the presentation/start line. Everyone is poised to present their bike and accompanying TV commercial when a door at the end of the room bursts open. Suddenly, you see the excited faces of underserved children from your own community! Imagine the delight and surprise that fill the room when everybody learns these kids actually get to take your new bicycles home with them. For most of the children involved, typically ages 8-12, this will be their first bicycle!
Operation Military Care: This is an impactful program that will put your group through an engaging, team-building activity leading up to the final challenge – the care package assembly for our military heroes. It all begins with the entire group broken up into sub-teams and placed in different starting locations. From the start, these teams are required to gather items and materials that will comprise the care packages. These items are spread over a large area. Travel is difficult as the team must use “stepping stones” (walking pads) during the journey. From competition to collaboration, teams realize that only a shared, concerted effort will allow the project task to be completed on time. At the conclusion of the event, and much to the surprise of the attendees, representatives from the armed services march into the room to accept the care packages. Your guests will be filled with a true sense of accomplishment and finally have the chance to say thank you in person to the men and women who protect us daily!
La Playa Recreational and Tour Ideas
Point Lobos Nature Hike: Led by Associated Hosts expert naturalists, your group will explore on foot, Pirate's Cove, China Cove, Bird Island and the historic rocky shores where Edward Weston took many of his famous photographs. The group will also visit the shoreline to view sea lions, shore birds and sea otters.
Horseback Riding in Pebble Beach: Your guests will spend the afternoon enjoying a scenic trail-ride through some of the most beautiful terrain in Northern California. Guests will view the redwoods, bluffs, beaches, and coastal meadows. They will ride around the prestigious golf courses that line The Lodge at Pebble Beach as well as view the famous scenic wonders of the area: Seal Rock, Bird Rock and Cypress Point.
Kayaking on the Monterey Bay: Explore the wonders of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. New technology has created ocean kayaks that are safe and fun for people of all levels of experience. We provide all the necessary gear, paddling instruction, and an orientation about marine wildlife. Docents will share with you information about the ecology of the Sanctuary, the local history, and the biology of our marine life.
Carmel Valley Wine Tasting Tour: This tour ventures into the heart of Carmel Valley's wine region, exploring a working winery and visiting tasting rooms in the Carmel Valley Village. Lunch in Carmel Valley Village can be included as part of the tour.
Monterey Highlights Tour: Today your guests will experience the best of the Monterey Peninsula. Our expert guide will accompany your guests first to Monterey's premier attraction, the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Nearly one hundred innovative habitat galleries and exhibits will plunge your guests into Monterey Bay on a journey to its deep reefs, shale reefs, rock shores, turbulent tide pool sloughs, and sand sea floors. Once our guides have re-assembled the group, your guests will make their way along the famous 17 Mile Drive through the Del Monte Forest and pass some of the world's most prestigious golf courses along the rocky Pacific shoreline: Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Cypress Point. Other highlights of the Drive are the Lone Cypress, Seal Rock and of course, numerous spectacular mansions.
